The Benefits of Single-Tooth Implants

Single-tooth implants have aesthetic benefits as well as the ability to improve your oral health. When you lose a tooth, your jaw bone will begin to deteriorate and weaken after just one year. With a dental implant, this can be avoided entirely. Their durability as one of the biggest benefits of dental implants — they can last a lifetime with proper oral care.

What to Expect

Single-Tooth Implant Placement

The entire implant process can be completed in 2-3 appointments over a period of 3-6 months. There are two parts of the treatment process: the placement and the restoration. To prepare for your placement surgery, x-rays and impressions of your teeth are taken, and our team will use these images to design your treatment plan.

Once this is finalized, your implant placement appointment will be scheduled. During this appointment, your mouth will be cleaned and numbed, and a small incision will be made in your gum line where your missing tooth used to be. Dr. Kimball will insert the implant into your jaw, and the area will be cleaned and sutured shut. Once you heal, the implant will act as an artificial tooth root. After your healing process is complete, you will come back to our office to receive your restoration.

Your New Tooth

Single-Tooth Restorations

After your implant has been placed, it will begin healing and go through a process known as “osseointegration”. This is the process through which the titanium implant bonds to your jaw bone, essentially becoming a natural part of your mouth.

As you heal, Dr. Kimball will work closely with a trusted dental lab to create your dental restoration (for single-tooth implants, this is a dental crown). During your implant restoration appointment, Dr. Kimball will test the fit of your dental crown and bond it permanently into place to complete the procedure.

Care & Maintenance

How to Care for an Implant

Since dental implants essentially become part of your natural mouth, you can care for them just like regular teeth. Once you heal, dental implants require no special care. Simply brush twice per day and floss once per day, and come into our office for routine six-month checkups. With proper oral hygiene, a single-tooth dental implant can last a lifetime!
