Candidates For Dentures

Are Dentures Right for Me?

Partial dentures may be right for you if you are missing one or multiple teeth. The framework for partial dentures is made of a combination of plastic and metal, and they are designed to restore your smile by replacing missing teeth. The denture attaches to your remaining healthy teeth to restore your smile.

Full-arch dentures are likely a good choice if you have lost most or all of your natural teeth due to gum disease, tooth decay or a serious injury. Full-arch dentures must be fitted directly onto your gums, which means that they require the removal of all of your remaining teeth.

The Benefits of Dentures

Dentures are minimally-invasive, and they require no surgery unless you need some of your remaining teeth extracted before dentures can be fitted. They are also typically the most affordable way to restore your smile and they are usually covered, at least partially, by dental insurance. Dentures only take a few weeks to build and manufacture, allowing you to restore your smile with efficiency and ease.

What to Expect

The Denture Process

To start the process, you’ll come in for your first appointment and impressions of your teeth and/or gums will be taken. Then, these impressions will be sent to a dental lab, where a mockup set of your custom dentures will be made.

When your mockup dentures arrive, you’ll try them on and Dr. Kimball will examine them to see if they fit properly, and make any necessary adjustments. This process may need to be repeated a few times to ensure a perfect fit. Once the fit is perfect, Dr. Kimball will order your permanent set of full or partial dentures. Then, you’ll come back to pick them up from our office, and you can enjoy your new smile.

Caring for Tooth Replacements

There are a few basic things you’ll need to do to care for your dentures. First, remove and rinse them every time you eat in order to remove any loose food particles. It’s also important to brush your dentures daily to keep them clean, and soak them overnight to kill bacteria and keep them from drying out or deforming. You should also clean your mouth with a soft-bristled toothbrush whenever you remove your dentures.

At your final denture appointment, Dr. Kimball will give you a comprehensive set of instructions about how to properly care for your replacement teeth. If you ever have any questions, don’t hesitate to call our knowledgeable team!
