Is It Safe To See The Dentist For An Emergency During COVID-19?

The office of Dr. Stanley Kimball is open in Laguna Hills for emergency dental care, so we’re here to help you get the treatment you need if you have a serious dental emergency like a painful toothache, a broken tooth, or any other such urgent, immediate oral health problem.

Wondering if it’s safe to come into our office to get emergency treatment during the COVID-19 outbreak? In this blog, we’ll discuss a few of the safety steps that we’re taking to prevent the spread of infectious diseases at our office.

We Are Taking All Recommended Steps To Protect Our Patients

Dr. Kimball is taking the COVID-19 coronavirus very seriously. Currently, we are still only seeing emergency patients, and when patients come in for an appointment, there are many safety precautions in place to keep them safe, such as:

  • Social distancing – To help maintain social distancing, we ask that patients come alone to their appointments, unless they need assistance coming into and out of our office. When you arrive, you can call our office and wait in your car until it’s time to come in for your appointment. We are also taking steps to space out patient appointments to minimize contact and reduce the number of people in our office at any given time.

  • Employee & patient health screenings – All patients will complete a COVID-19 screening interview and have their temperature checked before treatment. All employees also receive regular health screenings and temperature checks to ensure they are healthy and free of any potential infectious disease.

  • PPE (personal protective equipment) – All staff members are required to wear masks, and all members of our dental staff are wearing gowns, face shields, gloves, and other PPE that is sterilized or disposed of between patients to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19.

  • Enhanced common area disinfecting – We are now regularly wiping down all hard surfaces in our office (tables, chairs, doorknobs, bathroom surfaces, etc) with a CDC-approved sterilizing agent known as Cavicide, which helps mitigate the risk of spreading infectious diseases.

Seeing A Dentist Is Safer And A Better Option Than Going To The ER

If you want to minimize the risks of COVID-19 to you and your family, it’s much better to go to the dentist for an emergency than it is to go to the ER. You should only go to the ER for a life-threatening injury like a broken jaw. For the most part, emergency rooms are not set up to deal with dental emergencies, and are a much more expensive option.

In addition, ERs commonly treat patients with infectious diseases like COVID-19. Even with the best precautions, the risk of infection is higher in a medical facility that is treating infected patients. For that reason, seeing an emergency dentist like Dr. Stan Kimball in Laguna Hills is the best choice.
